As expected, NASA has set an 11:26 a.m. July 8 launch attempt for the finale of the space shuttle program, the blast off of Atlantis for the STS-135 mission.
NASA announced the official time and date following a lengthy flight readiness review meeting of managers other officials at Kennedy Space Center Tuesday. They concluded that all the equipment, support systems and people are ready for a launch that day. During the meeting NASA discussed concerns with a valve and a booster parachute system, but both problems have been resolved.
Atlantis will have a four-astronaut crew: commander Chris Ferguson, pilot Doug Hurley, and mission specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim.
