Your Choices When Choosing Rehabilitation Treatment

Getting help for addiction isn’t an immutable process. There are three main types of treatment when it comes to drug or alcohol rehabilitation used by inpatient drug rehab facility. Generally, all three of these methods will be used in conjunction, but sometimes only one method might be needed. There may be more of an emphasis on one over the other two as the primary form of treatment, or there may be an even balance of all three. Depending what the needs of the dependent person are, the mixing of these services varies.
Medical Services
The first of these three treatments is medical treatment. Inside inpatient drug rehab facilities, you will find all sorts of medical specialists. These include nurses, medical doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists. What many would associate with medical treatment is drug detox, or medically supervised withdrawal. Going through detox in a facility is a good idea, since withdrawals can not only be painful, but detrimental to one’s health as well. Seizures and hallucinations accompany the withdrawal of several drugs, so with doctors always ready to speed the process and make it less unpleasant, getting detoxed in a facility is easier and safer.
Emotional Stability
Many times those who are addicted to a substance also may have other illnesses, such as depression or bipolar disorder, which have the potential to make things more difficult. With dual diagnosing, medical doctors and therapists can help patients recovery physically and mentally from addiction in conjunction.
Counseling Services
Treatment facilities also employ counseling as a method of treatment. Counseling at a rehab facility involves a professional therapist who specializes in cases of addiction. Groups are generally small and intimate and are based on mutual support. Other victims share their stories and encourage others to share theirs. The therapist and the other group members swap advice and criticism, and tackle issues like family and gender problems. Sometimes meditation is used. These small group sessions are designed to be positive experiences to help people cope and continue to grow, as well as to show that addicts are never alone in their struggle. . With all the encouragement, advice, and support, those who are recovering from addiction can continue to move in the right direction.
Education
The last treatment service is education. Through education, those who are struggling will learn exactly why they are struggling, why they feel the urges, and why they feel dependent on substances. In so many instances, drug or alcohol users do not realize how these substances affect their bodies. By learning how about the disease of addiction and some important warning signs of addiction, those getting treatment can overcome it. Learning these things can help people recognize their feelings and motivations. For the most part, a 12-step program is used. This program generally includes a small group, medicinal help, therapy, and psychiatry. With the knowledge of symptoms and the nature of addiction on their side, dependent people can attack problems early.
